Promenade

pretty-pink

I’ve heard through the grapevine (the grapevine being my 17 year old brother) that this thing called PROM is fast approaching for those fresh-faced high school senior types. Having done the whole dress, hair, make-up thing not so long ago myself, I thought I’d offer up some advise as well as outfit inspiration.

Tips:

1. Do not spend more then $100 on your dress. You can definitely rationalize why you think you should (“I’ll wear it again!”, “Prom is only once”, “It may be $250, but I need it in my life”), but when it comes down to it you will not wear this dress again. It will either sit in your closet only to be brought out to play dress up or it will be donated. This is not an investment piece.

2. Try out the trends. When I was looking for my prom dress, I was obsessed with finding something that would be ~*timeless*~. Don’t get me wrong, my dress was cute but prom is not your wedding day. It is a night to show off how hip, young, and funky you are. Plus, if you don’t abide by the trends, what will your future children make fun of you for?

3. Eat beforehand. The food will be disgusting. If your group/date isn’t planning on dining before you go, make sure to at least have a sandwich or something. Hunger is not cute.

4. Take a picture of your made-up face with flash before you that the official pics. When I was doing my makeup for prom I decided to test out Benefits High Brow. Thinking that this was a product to make your eyebrows stay in place all night long, I put the product on top of my brows and not directly underneath them like you’re supposed to. I saw that they basically just made them white, so I wiped it off but that didn’t change the fact that the flash from the cameras brought out the sheen and whited-out my eyebrows. Now, in almost all my photos it looks like I have no eyebrows. So, yeah, take test pictures.

5. If you wanna dance, go shorter. Long dresses are not made for dancing ladies! If you like to boogie, wear a dress that shows some leg. Or go jumpsuit (that works in the whole trend thing as well)!

6. Don’t put to much pressure on the night. There’s a lot of hype for prom, but please don’t buy into it. If prom really is the most magical night of your life, then something in your life has gone horribly wrong. Just kick back, relax, and enjoy a night looking fancy with your best buds.

My Thanksgiving was actually the best. It was one of those perfect holiday moments where you don’t know that many people, but you’re bonded by the merriment and (let’s be honest) liberal amounts of wine. So while there was still family at my Thanksgiving, I also feasted with my aunts makeup artist, a former Australian model, and a family of British actors (they were particularly hilarious to me, I mean they brought a trifle and talked about their son going to Oxford. It was so adorably British). It was such an L.A. Thanksgiving, it was perfect.

Friday

My Black Friday was more like Gold Friday. And I mean literal gold, Alley gave me this moisturizer to use that she got at the Emmys and it has 24k gold in it. We didn’t really move in the morning, there was much sitting on the porch drinking coffee in our pajamas. At 11 we all decided to get up and to the Beverly Hills Hotel for lunch (my mom’s been fixated since we watch Saving Mr.Banks a couple weeks ago). The hotel is ridiculous, everything is pink and green and white and 40’s-esque. It’s touristy, yes, but in the same way Disneyland is touristy. Like you have to love it. After lunch we decided to visit Irene’s store, despite the fact that she wan’t there (I still haven’t met her, but I possibly will tonight). If you haven’t heard of her, she makes fine jewelry for a younger crowd, all of it fanatically glitzy and colorful. Whats really great about her store is that it’s designed like a home almost. There are normal jewelry cases in the front, but in the back there are bookshelves and couches and a kitchen even (I took pictures of it but I didn’t like how they turned out so I didn’t put them in) which is all decorated in a kind of luxury rainforest motif. If you have some money to burn, I fully recommend her stuff. It is sincerely gorgeous. Across the street from Irene’s store was Carolina Herrera, who possibly is my favorite red carpet designer (Seen here on Lucy Liu, Emmy Rossum, and my girl Taylor) so, obviously, we had to stop in. This may possibly have been my favorite stop because the pretty Brazilian saleswoman who worked there told me I had a nice complexion, which coming from her (as she must see beautiful people daily) means a lot. She was also the sweetest retail worker I have met, when we left she gave us all hugs and kisses. The whole day made me feel fairly L.A. glamour and leaves me feeling better about probably having to move down here in the future.

So that was my holiday! Jealous?

Happy turkey day,

Oakland When it Drizzles

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

Geddit? Like Paris When it Sizzles only,… okay so I may have had that pun in my head for about two months just waiting for the right opportunity to use it. It really hasn’t been raining. But Thursday was a magical day where I was once again forced to get some culture in my life, and it rained! You remember when I had to go to the DeYoung? Well, this time I had to go to the Oakland Museum. Doesn’t quite have the same grandeur as the DeYoung, nor the natural beauty of Golden Gate Park. But what Oakland lacks in glamour it makes up for in… hipsterness? Truth be told, and they’re revoking my Oakland citizenship as I write this, I prefer San Francisco to Oakland. Nonetheless, I tried, you can’t say I didn’t, to take some spiffy pictures of my adventure, but the rain and the fact that this part of Oakland is ugly as sin sort of deterred from that. Enjoy!

That Natural Dewy Look

Screen-Shot-2013-10-07-at-08.23.27

This weather is wreaking havoc on my skin. The weather has finally gotten a little colder, that is if you consider 55 degrees cold. So it’s a little colder, and considering that California hasn’t seen any real rain for the past year or so, it’s pretty freakin dry too. Consequently, my skin is producing mass amounts of oil trying to compensate for this dry weather (I may have done some Googling to find this answer) and I’m breaking out like crazy. Also it makes my bangs look greasy by midday.

Which is why I’m daydreaming about beautiful dewy skin. Guess you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.

Paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Anyway, I’ve compiled a full makeup set that’ll give you a natural, dewy look guaranteed (probably).
